What if, for one evening, we could literally walk into a Monet painting? In Chatou, a completely free festival is set to transform one of the most charming little islands in the Île-de-France region into an immersive and poetic experience, blending light, nature, and monumental projections.
A festival inspired by Impressionism
Join us on Friday, September 11, and Saturday, September 12, 2026, from 7:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., at the Hameau Fournaise onthe Île des Impressionnistes in Chatou. It was here that Renoir, Monet, Caillebotte, and Sisley would set up their easels in the 19th century, at this open-air café that served as the birthplace of the Impressionist movement. Now in its 6th year, the Festival Lumières Impressionnistes continues its mission: to bring the world of the greatest Impressionist painters to life through light and live performance. And this year, the event is thinking big.
Monet, Dream Garden: the 2026 edition designed as a sensory immersion
To mark the Monet Centennial, the 2026 edition of the festival is dedicated to the painter’s passion for nature in all its forms and throughout all seasons. Under the evocative title “Monet, Jardin rêvé,” the Hameau Fournaise is literally transformed into an Impressionist garden, directly echoing Giverny and the natural world so dear to the painter. With light and plant-based installations, sound-and-light shows, contemporary dance performances, exhibitions, workshops, and poetic strolls, the festival aims to offer a resolutely sensory experience, much like Monet’s paintings themselves.
The festivities include an immersive theatrical tour dedicated to Renoir from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Fournaise Museum, followed at 9:00 p.m., 10:00 p.m., and 11:00 p.m. by the sound-and-light show *Monet: From Landscape to Landscape*, as well as a choreographed performance titled *Variations for a Dream Garden*. A night market featuring local artisans and creators rounds out the festivities, creating a friendly atmosphere worthy of the open-air cafés of yesteryear.
A free event, open to everyone
True to its roots, the Lumières Impressionnistes Festival remains entirely free and open to the public. For one weekend, this small, unspoiled corner of nature in the Yvelines will be transformed into one of the most eagerly anticipated cultural events of the fall season in Île-de-France.
