As we all know, the Paris metro is full of little secrets. Among the countless underground corridors that make up this Parisian landmark, did you know which connection was the longest in the transport network? A 15-minute itinerary will take you from one station to another without leaving the metro corridors.
15-minute walk to the longest connection on the Paris metro
When you take the Paris metro, it’s hard to believe how long it can take to get from one line to another! Walks that can take forever, so much so that our time in the station is greater than our time in the train.
But what do you think is the longest connection in Paris? The long mechanical footbridges at Montparnasse? The labyrinthine Châtelet-les-Halles or Gare du Nord? Well, no, the award for the longest underground journey doesn’t go to the prime suspects, as it’s the connection between Saint-Augustin and Opéra that takes the longest!
In fact, it takes 15 minutes to walk between the two stops. Thanks to the capital’s largest transfer circuit, the two stations are linked, and we’ll tell you how! From Saint-Augustin station, follow the line 14 platform to Saint-Lazare and its large circular hall. Next direction, Haussmann Saint-Lazare station (RER E station), then Auber station after a few minutes of stairs and corridors. After traversing this veritable underground hub and its stores, all that’s left to do is face a seemingly endless escalator and we’ll finally arrive at Opéra station!
And that’s it, with this underground journey we have the longest possible connection on the Paris metro. It’s a real underground journey, and one that we’d recommend taking on foot! As a reward for spending 15 minutes underground on an itinerary that’s as fascinating as it is pointless, you’ll be able to enjoy a fine view of the majestic Opéra Garnier…
