In the heart of Val-d’Oise the Château de Vigny, a splendid early 16th-century residence, has fallen prey to a devastating plague. Merula, an aggressive parasitic fungus, has taken up residence here because of unscrupulous former owners. Today, major works costing several million euros are underway, and every effort is being made to finance them, such as a magnificent classical concert on the estate.
A classical concert to save the Château de Vigny
A veritable monument just 45 kilometers from Paris, Château de Vigny boasts beautiful towers and magnificent Renaissance architecture. A jewel in the heart of the Val-d’Oise, it has belonged to some of France’s most illustrious families, and underwent extensive reconstruction before being listed as a Historic Monument in 1984. However, having been abandoned by its former owners, the beautiful building is now plagued by a major problem: merula infestation.
Attacking the structure of the château, its 160 rooms and outbuildings, this parasitic fungus has put the building in great peril. As a result, major work has been undertaken, on the one hand to treat the merula, and on the other to restore the roof and framework. Now that the north and south wings have been saved, a major phase of work is underway, such as stabilizing the interior of the château and saving the outbuildings.
A colossal project costing several million euros. And while the building can already count on the support of generous donors, you can help save it in your own way, by taking part in a superb concert planned for the autumn. On September 6, the château’s grounds will play host to a brilliant classical concert, with all proceeds going towards financing the renovations. Two talented soloists, accompanied by the Orchestra National d’Île-de-France, will play some fine scores, including Max Richter‘s recomposition of Vivaldi’s Four Seasons.
It’s a great show that will play a part in safeguarding our heritage… Go for it!
