With the warm weather finally appearing on the horizon, it’s now possible to go hiking without having to move to another region. For yes, just like the treasures of the Chevreuse Valley of this stroll along the banks of the Loing river or this escapade in the heart of the Vexin there’s a whole host of bucolic and picturesque itineraries in every corner of the Île-de-France region. And today, we’re taking you to the 25 moguls circuit, rightly considered one of the region’s most beautiful courses.
The 25 bumps circuit or the most beautiful hike in the Paris region
If you’re hoping to enjoy one of the region’s most famous hikes, you’ll have to head to Seine-et-Marne, and more specifically to the western side of the Fontainebleau forest, not far from the charming villages of Barbizon and Milly-la-Forêt. Starting from the Croix Saint-Jérôme parking lot, a 14.8-kilometer loop awaits you, with its share of surprises.
Created in the 70s, this trail has been used ever since as a training ground for all mountaineers living in the area and preparing for a mountain outing. The reason? The 25 bumps that literally punctuate this course in the Gâtinais park. Expect lots of ascents and descents, and some tricky sections. The reward, however, is all the more beautiful and constant. Along the way, you’ll be able to admire beautiful panoramic views of the Fontainebleau forest, as well as a number of curiosities such as stretches of sand and piles of rock. You can also enjoy the unspoilt nature, and why not come across a few animals if you’re lucky.
Although it’s one of the most beautiful hikes in the region, it’s worth remembering that the route does present a certain degree of difficulty. With its steep gradients and occasionally tricky sections, you’ll need to be in decent physical condition to complete it. And don’t forget to bring plenty of water, good shoes and protein bars.
