With almost 100 days to go until the first sports competitions of the Paris 2024 Olympics, the Olympics committee is finalizing the last details. We now know that the Olympic flame will finally be installed in the Tuileries Gardens, just as we know that Aya Nakamura will provide the entertainment for the opening ceremony. But do you know where the competitions will be held? Discover the places that will be in demand for sporting events in Paris.
15 venues to host sporting events in Paris alone
Throughout the Olympic Games, Paris will vibrate to the rhythm of sport and competition. In the capital alone, 15 venues will be called upon to host 24 Olympic sports (out of a total of 32). Such is the case at Place de la Concorde, where for the first time you’ll be able to see skateboarding, breaking, BMX and even basketball. The Champ-de-Mars will be transformed into a seaside resort during the games, with beach volleyball.
The Grand Palais, meanwhile, will become the venue for fencing and taekwondo competitions. Finally, the equestrian events will take place on the historic site of the Château de Versailles… In short, iconic sites that represent Paris well.
As you can see, the Olympic Committee’s aim is to use existing venues as much as possible, in order to reduce costs. Sporting events are held within a 10km radius of the Olympic Village, which is located in Seine-Saint-Denis. This will enable athletes to rest between competitions, and spectators to get there easily on foot or by public transport.
The Paralympic Games will not be outdone, as it has been decided that the competitions will be held at the same venues as the Olympic Games. This is the case for 15 sports such as para-swimming, para-taekwondo, para-table tennis and so on.
