We’re more used to coming across these works in urban space, here they are on display from mid-September in the very heart of Paris and in a never-before-seen space! From September 13, several street art creations will be on display at the Église de la Madeleine. Eighty personalities (Chanoir, Jérôme Mesnager, Demoiselle MM…) are taking part in the free Street Art Madeleine exhibition until December 22, 2024.
Street art, from urban spaces to museums
Street art is displayed wherever it pleases! On a faded wall, on an iron curtain or where you least expect it, like on urban furniture! The street art pushes where it can, where it wants! You need a hell of a sense of observation and sometimes patience to see some! Surprising, offbeat, even on the fringe, that’s also what makes this art, which has gained in popularity since its emergence in the 80s, so special.
Nowadays, street artists have access to museums, galleries and many other spaces in the city. Right now in Paris alone, you can see We Are Here at the Petit Palais and soon the exhibition Speedy Graphito at Fluctuart. And in a few days’ time, it’s off to the Église de la Madeleine for fans of the genre!
A street art exhibition in a church crypt
The Galerie Roussard and street artist Codex Urbanus have collaborated to mount the expo Street Art Madeleine. It brings together 80 artists and focuses on street art known as “vandal”, on street art that frees itself from all authorizations, braves the forbidden and creates with a certain freedom! Many of the guest artists have evolved their practice and now collaborate with institutions, but what they have in common is that they return to their first love from time to time. Vandal street art is rooted in them, and they don’t hesitate to return to the field to create unhindered and discreetly… like illegals!
Until December 22, you can discover works signed by Levalet, 13bis, Ender, Jérôme Rasto, Mais oui tu es belle and a host of other artists. They will be on view in the crypt of the church and some 200 works will also be on sale!
