We saw them during the Opening Ceremony of the Paris Olympic Games, and now we’ll be able to admire them up close! The statues of remarkable women (Veil, Halimi, Michel…) honored on the evening of July 26, 2024 will be on display at the Assemblée nationale from September 23 to October 5, 2024.
There were plenty of highlights during the Opening Ceremony of the Olympic Games. These included ZEUS’s poetic ride and the great illumination of the cauldron. Other sequences also left their mark on this ceremony, which was just as spectacular, festive and inclusive. The one dedicated to the great women of French history was one of them!
Gilded statues of emblematic female figures of our society had indeed stood at the side of the Seine. Good news, the statues of Simone Veil, Olympe de Gouges or Alice Millat are not going to disappear, in fact we’ll be able to see them again soon!
An exhibition at the Assemblée nationale
Keen to keep a trace of the event, the Games Organizing Committee is also looking at the after Olympics and its legacy. What is to be done with the scenography elements and creations designed for the ceremonies? After the presentation of the mechanical horse at the Hôtel de Ville, it’s the ten statues of French women seen on the evening of July 26 that will be presented to the public.
The Assemblée nationale is hosting these Ten Golden Women in its courtyard of honor from September 23 to October 5. The public will be able to contemplate these 4-meter-high and created by Paname 2024 statues up close. Their presentation to the general public will help to highlight these women from the world of the arts, politics or sport who have been pioneers in their field. They are Jeanne Barret, Simone de Beauvoir, Olympe de Gouges, Alice Guy, Gisèle Halimi, Louise Michel, Alice Millat, Paulette Nardal, Christine de Pizan and Simone Veil.
Some are already well-known to the public, others much less so, this event will once again put them in the spotlight! On this occasion 12,000 slots are already available for booking here.
