Forty years after Christo and Jeanne-Claude ‘s impressive installation on the Pont Neuf, artist JR is also going to turn the famous bridge into a work of art! Find out more about this spectacular artistic project, which will be unveiled to the public in September 2025!
1985, the first transformation of the Pont Neuf
The Pont Neuf will be transformed once again! For two weeks in September 1985, Parisians were able to see the famous bridge wrapped in fabric, from its imposing pillars to its sidewalks! The amazing metamorphosis, carried out by artist couple Christo and Jeanne-Claude, required 41,800 square meters of fabric. Four decades later, photographer and street artist JR will pay tribute, in his own way, to this installation that left such a lasting impression!
His work will be on view from June 6 to 28, 2026 , more than 40 years after Christo and Jeanne-Claude’s work, but we already know what the oldest bridge in Paris will be transformed into!
JR’s “grotto” installation
Who better to celebrate this monumental, ephemeral work of art, which caused a stir and attracted millions of visitors, than an expert in gigantic installations in public spaces? JR himself will have the privilege of taking over the illustrious bridge for the entire month of June 2026.

After playing with the facade of the Opéra Garnier and making the Louvre disappear, the Pont Neuf Project, conceived in collaboration with the Christo and Jeanne-Claude Foundation, is back!
In June 2026, Parisians won’t be able to cross and admire the Pont Neuf, but a grotto! For such a metamorphosis, JR will install rock formations on the bridge. These structures will transform the man-made stone structure into a raw, natural site! A bridge between past and present!
