Paris is a historic city with many hidden treasures. Among them is the Tour d’Argent, the oldest restaurant in Paris and one that certainly offers most beautiful views. Le Procope is also one of the city’s most astonishing places, as the café the oldest in Paris (and indeed in the world). Discover the oldest bar in Paris, l’Entracte! An astonishing place that has lived a thousand lives.
L’Entracte, the oldest bar in Paris
Open since 1614, l’Entracte has had an eventful life to say the least. Formerly known as La Pissote, this was a meeting place for coachmen who liked to have a drink and a good piss (hence the name). Just a stone’s throw from the Palais Royal, it was an ideal place to relax between clients, and have a good time.
Now, more than 400 years later, the artists and actors of the Palais Royal theater just across the street still have their habits. We go there for a drink, of course, but also to share a charcuterie board and enjoy the terrace day and night. Here, it’s best not to be shy: the place is small, to the point of being a little stuck to its neighbor, but it doesn’t lack charm. Its old-French feel, with its slightly dated songs, zinc bar and old-fashioned decor, is sure to win you over. Come evening, the atmosphere is always warm and festive! A piece of Parisian history that we recommend you see on your next walk.
