A new separate room for the Mona Lisa ? In any case, the conditions for exhibiting the world’s most famous painting are currently being re-examined. Laurence des Cars, president of the Louvre, is certainly in favor of the idea. We may soon be able to admire this priceless work of art in a whole new light!
What future for the Mona Lisa?
Every day, over 20,000 visitors flock to the Salle des États, the largest room in the Louvre, to catch a glimpse of Mona Lisa. Opposite the monumental painting of the Wedding at Cana, the Mona Lisa is admired and photographed on a daily basis behind its protection and large railing. Nevertheless, this feature may well disappear, in favor of a new installation, or at least a new scenography.
Asked by France Inter on Saturday April 27 about the question of a “separate room”, Laurence des Cars said it was a “big yes” for her, and that for many people, the solution would be feasible. Discussions with the French Ministry of Culture are currently underway to improve exhibition conditions for this Renaissance masterpiece.
The first option would be to relocate the painting to a separate room. The Mona Lisa would thus leave the Venetian masterpieces for a room totally dedicated to it. If this did not happen, we would have to improve the scenography around the work. In any case, we expect to see the Mona Lisa evolve over the coming months, and we’re looking forward to it.
