Paris 2024 – Los Angeles 2028! The Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris are drawing to a close! To mark this milestone in style and pass the flame to Los Angeles, which will host the next Summer Games, a poetic marathon will take place on Saturday, September 7 in Paris. See you at Châtelet and Hôtel de Ville for this free celebration, which puts sport and poetry in the spotlight!
A celebration to link sport and poetry, Paris and Los Angeles
This poetry marathon acts as a hyphen. On the one hand between Paris, which hosted the Summer Games and Los Angeles, the host city for the next event in 2028. It also creates bridges between sporting disciplines and literature. Who said sport couldn’t be poetic, or that poetry wasn’t a form of physical performance?
Just as there was the transmission of the Olympic flame, so this Saturday there will be the transmission of the poetic flame!
Readings, slam, theater-tennis… The program for this Olympic poetry marathon
Several free events that will bring together sport and poetry will take place right in the center of Paris (on the Terrasse des Jeux in front of the Hôtel de Ville, on the Place du Châtelet and at the Théâtre de la Ville). It’ll be a chance to discover sport and poetry in a whole new light!
Have you heard of theater-tennis or poetic ping pong? From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the Terrasse des Jeux, watch demonstrations and learn about these half-sporting, half-artistic disciplines!
Also in the morning, several authors (Zoé Besmond de Senneville,Selima Atallah Chettaoui, la scène slam du 93…) await you for readings and performances at Théâtre de la Ville.
Finally, from 2pm to midnight, on the ring of the Place du Châtelet, parade of French-speaking authors (Alain Mabanckou, Souleymane Diamanka, Mathias Malzieu from the group Dionysos) and poets from Los Angeles (Uchechi Kalu, Steve Connell, Shandela Contreras …). Performances between slam, musical readings (tinged with electro, rock or rap) or crossed with dance will resonate on the stage! And to continue with this mix of genres, actors from Théâtre de la Ville will also read original texts inspired by the 2024 Olympic Games!
