The outskirts of Paris are certainly not lacking in charm. You’ll find sumptuous fairytale castles, lakes and even waterfalls where you can dip your feet in warm weather. If you’re looking for nature this weekend, we’ve got just the thing for you: an idyllic pond, surrounded by nature, just 1 h from Paris. A dream within reach!
A magnificent pond close to Paris with a white sandy beach
Who’d have thought such a landscape could exist just 1 hour from Paris? Nestled in the heart of the magnificent Rambouillet forest, Les Étangs de Hollande offers a breathtakingly enchanting setting! With its crystal-clear water and immaculate beach, it’s almost like being on an island paradise! This magnificent estate comprises six ponds, the largest of which, the Etang de Hollande, is the only one to welcome vacationers and Parisians in search of fresh air.

Contrary to popular belief, these three-century-old ponds are completely artificial! Created during the reign of King Louis XIV, the Etangs de Hollande were originally designed to supply the water basins of the Château de Versailles! It was thanks in part to these ponds that the fountains were able to operate, thus embellishing the estate of the Sun King! Even today, you can still see some of the old waterworks, remnants of this gigantic project.
Since 1977, this magnificent estate has been enjoying a second lease of life! There are plenty of family activities on offer, including paddle-boarding, canoeing, inflatable water games and swimming! Picnics are not allowed, but there’s a buvette on site, serving snacks and cold drinks in fine weather.

Beyond this magnificent stretch of water, hiking enthusiasts will find plenty to discover! And if you’re keen to explore even further, don’t hesitate to visit the Château de Rambouillet. A superb estate to discover in fine weather!
