When the weather’s fine, many Parisians flock to La Baule and its large beach. But if you push 10 km further, you’ll find a little-known nugget that’s not lacking in charm: Piriac-sur-Mer. A coastal town of character, perfect for unwinding!
A seaside village of character close to Paris
With its charming granite houses, hydrangea-lined streets, typical port, coastal path and white sandy beach, Piriac-sur-Mer is a little-known destination for tourists. And that’s just as well, because if you want to discover a picturesque village away from the crowds, while enjoying postcard-worthy scenery, this is the place to put your suitcases down this summer.
Nestled in the Loire-Atlantique region of France, this nugget will give you an instant change of scenery. It was here that the most famous artists came to meditate, find inspiration and, above all, rest: Emile Zola, Flaubert and Alphonse Daudet… all were seduced by this remote village, hidden away in the rocks. A simple fishing village, Piriac-sur-mer’s destiny changed in 1850 when it became a popular seaside resort. Thanks to the train, the town became increasingly popular with yachtsmen who came to enjoy its beach and enchanting setting.
Hiking enthusiasts will find plenty to do, with spectacular views from the beaches and coves. In fact, the town’s coastal path takes you on a 10 km loop to the Pointe du Castelli. A magnificent stroll, between land and sea, where the sea spray will caress your nostrils and your eyes will be dazzled.
An invitation to stroll away from the crowds this summer!
