The Place de Catalogne, not necessarily renowned for its beauty, has been completely transformed. Since spring, a veritable urban forest has been growing here, transforming the entire square and neighbourhood.
New life for Place de la Catalogne
Often criticized for its ugliness, and the technical problems associated with its fountain, the Place de Catalogne has never really been in the hearts of local residents in the 14th arrondissement. Hearing the disenchantment of Parisians with this somewhat gloomy area, the Mairie has undertaken a major transformation of the sector from 2020 onwards, giving way today to an imposing green setting.
Yes, this new location features 4,000 square metres of forest, including 860 square metres of clearing. This corresponds to 470 small, medium and large trees planted, with plenty of time to grow in the years to come. It’s worth noting that the old traffic circle has been halved to make way for a pedestrian area, facing the few restaurants set up here.
A long-standing project on Paris City Hall’s agenda, it also concerns other Parisian sites such as the place du Colonel Fabien. Nevertheless, the aim is the same: to refresh the surroundings, give pedestrians back their rightful place and purify the ambient air.
