A stone’s throw from l’Opéra in the heart of Paris lies a magnificent room full of history. Built in the image of London’s legendary Palace Theater in 1913 by British financier Alfred Butt, the Théâtre Mogador opened in 1919. In fact, it was the future 32ᵉ President of the United States Franklin Delano Roosevelt who would be the man of honor at this opening. Initially called Palace Théâtre, the venue eventually took the name of the street where it is located in the 9th arrondissement : Mogador.
During the Roaring Twenties, the theater became a mecca for Parisian culture, with its Ballets Russes and Thés Mogador, musical gatherings. But it was in the 1940s, when the legendary Casino de Paris director Henri Varna took over the Théâtre Mogador, that his reputation was restored. The operettas performed there would make the venue internationally renowned.
