Whether we live in Paris or are just passing through, we are always on the lookout for excellence. In recent days, the capital has once again distinguished itself: a Parisian chef has been voted “world’s most creative pastry chef”. It is also home to the world’s best Italian restaurant, as well as an architecturally exceptional bar, whose painted ceiling, a listed historic monument, is a real eye-catcher. And just recently, Paris added another distinction to its list of honours, with the 2025 edition of the Prix Versailles. This international award celebrates the most remarkable places in terms of architecture and design. This year, two Parisian establishments feature among the most beautiful restaurants in the world.
In 2025, two of the most beautiful restaurants in the world are in Paris – and you probably know them…
Whether they are convivial or gastronomic gatherings, the world’s most beautiful restaurants stand out for their ambiance and architecture, as Jérôme Gouadain, General Secretary of the Prix Versailles, points out. “From a meal, we retain the flavor of the dishes, the scent of a space, the soundtrack of a meeting, perhaps the memory of an object. But who can really say it all? What is certain is that the experience is above all human and interior, shared and unique. In this respect, architecture has an eminently paradoxical, almost maternal role, drawing us into its arms, enveloping us with its forms, and then totally erasing itself in favor of a suspended feast.”
He continues: ” The Versailles Prize today highlights 16 effective, coherent, significantly initiatory approaches, nourishing bodies as well as souls.”
A macaroon temple with Belle Époque charm…
Among this year’s winners – from Dubai’s captivating Smoked Room to Palma de Mallorca’s solar-powered Lobster Club and Shanghai’s historic Ōrtensia – two Parisian establishments stand out: Ladurée rue Royale and the breathtaking Ducasse Baccarat, nestled in the capital’s 8th and 16th arrondissements respectively. But what makes these 2 Parisian restaurants stand out, so much so that they could be among the most beautiful restaurants in the world in 2025? Here are some answers.
First stop: a trip back in time to the era of Marie-Antoinette. Reopened in 2024, Ladurée rue Royale is a veritable ode to French history and elegance. Under its fully restored original Belle Époque ceilings, the place exudes a hushed atmosphere worthy of the salons of yesteryear. Pleated drapes, delicate moldings, a Napoleon salon… every detail has been carefully rethought by designer Cordelia de Castellane. The result is an absolutely enchanting pastel setting, where you can marvel at both the decor and the mythical macaroons, the sweet emblems of the Maison.
And a Parisian jewel, signed Alain Ducasse.
The second place to have distinguished itself by its splendor and beauty is none other than Ducasse Baccarat. Before becoming the Maison Baccarat, this mansion was the home of Marie-Laure de Noailles (1902-1970), muse of modern art. At the time, sumptuous receptions were held here, bringing together high society. From the 1920s to the 1950s, artists and intellectuals of the day would gather here. Today, the second floor is home to Alain Ducasse’s restaurant, where gastronomic excellence meets the art of crystal-making.
This exceptional setting has been sublimated by interior designer Aliénor Béchu, with Baccarat crystal, raw materials and contemporary works of art blending in a subtle dialogue. A timeless destination, in a place like a glass shoe straight out of a fairy tale.
