You thought you were done with filling out permits and QR codes, like in the days of confinement? No way! On Monday April 8, French Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin gave an exclusive interview to Le Parisien Parisien. In this interview, the statesman revealed that local residents will have to register on a dedicated platform, if they hope to gain access to certain perimeters of Paris. A sine qua non for travel on the opening day of the Olympic Games, and one week before. Residents or visitors, everyone can benefit from this special Olympic QR code!
A QR code to be requested as of May 10, 2024 to circulate in Paris
Will traffic in Paris be a Chinese headache during the Paris 2024 Olympics? In any case, this new announcement is likely to be divisive. This Monday, in the columns of Le Parisien that the French Minister of the Interior confirmed that a QR code authorization would be required to travel in Paris during the Olympic Games. To obtain the precious sesame, local residents will have to plan ahead and register from May 10, 2024.
Residents, guests and workers
But just which sectors are affected? As our colleagues in Le Parisien point out, residents living near the Seine, Trocadéro and Champs de Mars will be the first to be interested. But tenants and homeowners in these areas won’t be the only ones needing a QR code. Guests and workers will also need to apply for a traffic permit to access the areas concerned at the start of the Games and during the opening ceremony opening ceremony.

45,000 police officers to check QR codes
But what information will you need to obtain this famous QR code? Interviewed by Le Parisien, Gérald Darmanin gave the answer. To do this, you’ll need to enter a few basic details online. Just like your first name, last name and date of birth.
But be careful: if you haven’t registered on this online platform, you won’t be able to access the area in question. 45,000 police and gendarmes will be deployed to block the way. This will enable law enforcement agencies to check your QR codes. In addition, the Internet will be the one and only way to register on the platform. A “detail” that should appeal to the older generation.
