Constantly mocked for its tumult, Paris is, it must be admitted, sometimes a city that can generate stress. Blame it on pollution, the crowds or the fact that everyone seems to be in a hurry. Another unavoidable anxiety-inducing factor specific to the City of Light: noise! And while we already knew that the capital had high noise levels, we had no idea that it would earn the uncoveted title of the noisiest city in the world…
Paris tops the list of the world’s noisiest cities
It’s a fact: the world’s great capitals never sleep! And in Paris, the adage lends itself well to the fact that noise levels can be so high. More than just a general feeling, it’s actually a fact: Paris is the noisiest city in the world, if this study recently published by Preply is to be believed. By sifting through a number of factors, the analysis came up with two rankings, one listing the noisiest cities, but also its counterpart with the quietest!
To orchestrate this ranking, the study analyzed many data before cross-referencing them. Criteria included population density, number of visitors per year, average time spent in congestion, noise pollution and visitor reviews on rating sites. So, if the study is to be believed, it’s Paris that comes out on top. With its very high population density and record visitor numbers, even outside the Olympic Games, the capital achieves very high noise levels. Behind the City of Light are New York, Hong Kong, London and Los Angeles.
So, if you’re looking for peace and quiet, you know which cities to forget. On the other hand, for the quieter cities, you can head for Frankfurt, Munich, Amsterdam, Florence and Lisbon!
