Accessible by train from the capital, the largest buffet—and undoubtedly the most prestigious and famous in the world—the restaurant Les Grands Buffets is packed every day. A true tribute to Auguste Escoffier, “the king of chefs and the chef of kings,” this Narbonne institution is an ode to haute French cuisine!
Les Grands Buffets: The Record-Breaking Restaurant
It is in Narbonne, in the south of France, that you’ll find the world’s largest all-you-can-eat buffet. Founded in 1989 by Louis Privat, it is now a benchmark in the culinary world. In its luxurious setting, you can treat yourself to the best of French cuisine—all 100% homemade—thanks in particular to a superb selection of premium ingredients sourced from all corners of the country. And to top it all off, you can pair your meal with a fine glass of wine, as the restaurant also offers a wine list that would put any other restaurant to shame.

The all-you-can-eat buffet features no fewer than 300 dishes! From the rotisserie and fish counter to the pastry and cheese stations, grilled specialties, and more, the dishes are arranged in an enticing layout that catches the eye at every station. Of course, you can count on the great classics of French cuisine, from appetizers to desserts, including cheeses. And speaking of which, you should know that Les Grands Buffets holds a Guinness World Record for the world’s largest cheese platter, featuring no fewer than 111 varieties! In short, an incredible selection of house-made dishes crafted from fresh, seasonal ingredients!

But beyond the culinary aspect, dining at Les Grands Buffets is a true experience that begins with the decor. In a Belle Époque style inspired by classic fine-dining restaurants, the dining room lives up to the menu, particularly with its spectacular displays such as the cascade of lobsters, the giant rotisserie, and the chocolate fountain.
And Les Grands Buffets isn’t done thinking big. A major construction project launched in 2026 is set to expand the site by nearly 2,000 m², with the planned 2027 opening of a gourmet food hall, a large grocery store, a brasserie, and a bookstore dedicated to cooking. That’s sure to extend the experience well beyond your last trip to the buffet!
