With August offering us some beautiful days with mild temperatures, a little getaway a stone’s throw from the capital sounds like the perfect idea. This time, we put on our walking shoes and head north of the capital to enjoy one of the region’s most beautiful hikes. In the heart of the Val-d’Oise, the Montmorency forest stretches out majestically, and it’s the ideal playground for a good walking session, so follow the guide!
A beautiful itinerary in the heart of the Montmorency forest
All around the capital, the wealth of the Île-de-France region offers hundreds of hiking opportunities to enjoy once the sun comes out. Vexin regional park, Chevreuse valley or Fontainebleau forest: there’s no shortage of playgrounds beyond the borders of Paris. Today, we’re heading for the forest of Montmorency, a former royal hunting ground, to survey a 12-kilometer itinerary rich in scenery and beautiful natural sites.
Starting from the Bouffémont train station, accessible from line H, you can begin your walk and discover the most beautiful treasures of the estate, including the Château de la Chasse and its pond, the Tour du Plumet and the Sainte-Radegonde fountain. Your destination is Saint-Leu-la-Forêt station, again on line H. But before you get there, you’ll be able to enjoy a host of panoramic views, belvederes and hillocks. In short, all the little attributes that make a hike so much fun.
So you’ve got all the ingredients for a great hike. However, you should be aware that this route requires a certain level of physical fitness, and that you need to come prepared. With a positive altitude difference of 540 meters, the route is quite demanding, so be sure to take several liters of water, good shoes and a small snack!
