While Claude Monet’s garden in Giverny offers its most beautiful hues of color in the spring, there is a small green oasis near the capital that is just as worth a visit. Welcome to the Impressionist Park in Rueil-Malmaison. A haven of peace that seems straight out of a masterpiece. Surrounded by water and flowers, it offers a bucolic floral getaway perfect for the season!
The Impressionists’ Park in Rueil-Malmaison: an artist’s garden just a stone’s throw from Paris
Located right across from the Île des Impressionnistes, this park—little known to Parisians—is truly worth a visit. In spring, its 250 varieties of flowers and perennials bloom with rare elegance. A veritable open-air painter’s palette, designed by gardeners to delight the senses. In fact, each floral arrangement here is inspired by the color palettes used by Impressionist artists. That’s why you’ll sometimes feel as though you’re strolling right through the heart of a painting.

As you stroll through the park, you’ll be able to admire romantic scenes reminiscent of the most sublime paintings by 19th-century masters. On sunny days, you can discover a magnificent rose garden, a dazzling white garden, a small Japanese bridge surrounded by wisteria reminiscent of the one in Claude Monet’s garden, and gazebos surrounded by water, water lilies, and fruit trees.

And if you’re in the mood, we recommend extending your stroll to one of Paris’s oldest open-air cafés: Maison Fournaise, where a certain Renoir painted one of his most beautiful works: Luncheon of the Boating Party. There you’ll discover a charming restaurant as well as a tiny museum tracing the history of the site.
