The Louvre never ceases to surprise! For the first time in its history, the world’s largest museum is organizing an exhibition entirely dedicated to fashion, from January 24 to July 21, 2025. We tell you all about it.
A fashion exhibition at the Louvre… a first!
For almost a month, the Musée du Louvre will be hosting a superb new fashion exhibition. It will feature some sixty key outfits and thirty accessories from haute couture houses such as Chanel by Karl Lagerfeld, Yohji Yamamoto and Dolce & Gabbana.
What’s interesting about this exhibition is that each haute couture piece will be staged around the museum’s historical collections, from the Byzantine era to the French Second Empire. An unprecedented dialogue that’s sure to surprise!
In addition to the must-see designers, the museum will be showcasing the young designers of the moment, with a focus on Marie-Louise Carven. This Parisian fashion icon was also a great lover of art. A collector at heart, she donated a number of 18th-century French objets d’art to the Louvre in 1973.
Haute couture and the museum: a long-standing relationship
Although this is the first time the museum has organized an exhibition of this kind, fashion is no stranger to the Louvre.
In the past, the Louvre has hosted fashion shows by a number of fashion houses. With this very first fashion exhibition, the Louvreopens a promising new chapter! Let’s hope that other exhibitions of this kind will be organized in the months to come.
