The Louvre will always surprise us! The world’s largest museum is organizing for the first time in its history an exhibition entirely dedicated to fashion, from January 24 to July 21, 2025. We explain everything you can expect.
A fashion exhibition at the Louvre… a first!
For almost a month, a superb new exhibition around fashion will take place within the Louvre museum. The latter will feature nearly sixty flagship outfits and thirty accessories from haute couture houses such as Chanel by Karl Lagerfeld, Yohji Yamamoto and Dolce & Gabbana.
What’s interesting about this exhibition is that each haute couture piece will be staged around the museum’s historical collections, from the Byzantine era to the French Second Empire. An unprecedented dialogue that may well surprise us!
In addition to the must-see designers, the museum will honor the young designers of the moment and focus on the designer Marie-Louise Carven. This Parisian fashion icon was also a great lover of art. A collector at heart, she donated a number of 18th-century French objets d’art to the Louvre in 1973.
Haute couture and the museum: a long history
While it’s true that the museum is organizing an exhibition of this kind for the first time, fashion is nevertheless no stranger to the Louvre.
The latter has in the past hosted fashion shows by a number of couture houses. With this very first fashion exhibition, the Louvre opens a promising new chapter! Let’s hope for more exhibitions like this in the months to come.
