While all eyes will be on the capital in the moments to come, for the kick-off of the Olympic Games many tourists will be discovering or rediscovering Paris and its treasures during their visit. What do visitors think of the monuments and places of interest in the City of Light? A study by Preply reveals a little more about tourists’ love (and loathing) of the French capital.
Which Parisian monuments most disappoint tourists?
Based on data provided by Trip Advisor this study sifted through the opinions of numerous users to reveal two rankings: that of tourists’ favorite points of interest in Paris, and, on the other hand, those that disappointed the most. In terms of methodology, 150 Parisian sites and monuments were screened, and only those with over 1,000 reviews were selected. A statistical calculation of the ratio between positive and negative ratings was then carried out, then cross-referenced with the percentage of negative ratings, giving rise to a ranking.
So, what are tourists’ favourite Paris attractions? According to the study musée d’Orsay and its gigantic Impressionist collection. Then the Pont Alexandre III and the Luxembourg Gardens, followed closely by the buttes Chaumont park and the Opéra Garnier, in that order. On the other hand, the list of the most disappointing places is led by the Conciergerie, the Place du Tertre and the Moulin Rouge Moulin Rouge. Rounding out this unflattering top 5 are the La Défense district and the Centre Pompidou.
Long queues, disappointment with expectations or simply poor organization: negative reviews are received for a wide variety of reasons. Whatever the case, with its millions of visitors every year, Paris remains the world’s most popular city for tourists.
