Famous the world over among cinephiles, the Grand Rex is the capital’s jewel of the 7th art. Its reputation is well-established, especially when it receives awards such as the latest: Time Out has just voted the Art Deco edifice the most beautiful cinema in the world!
The most beautiful cinema in the world has been elected, and it’s a Parisian one!
After choosing Belleville as one of the world’s coolest neighborhoods, Time Out has once again chosen the City of Light, this time electing the Grand Rex as the world’s most beautiful cinema. Five years ago, the site published the same ranking, placing the building second. Since then, a major renovation has taken place, and the building has never been as majestic as it is now, leaving the competition no chance.
With its magnificent structure designed by architect Auguste Bluysen, the Grand Rex has given itself a new lease of life as the cinema approaches its centenary. In addition to the beautiful facade, we imagine that the splendor of the Grande Salle also played a role in this ranking. The Grand Rex also plays an important role for the 7th art in general in Paris, orchestrating an extensive program of themed evenings and retrospectives. In other words, the Grand Rex is the best representative of cinema in Paris, hence this award!
Two other Parisian establishments also feature in the ranking: the Champo and the brilliant Studio 28, two of the capital’s finest independent cinemas.
