When talking about Parisian covered passages, how can we not mention the Galerie Vivienne? This majestic passage was built in 1823 according to the plans of architect Jean-François Delannoy. Its elegance and beauty even earned it a place on the list of Historic Monuments in 1974.
Are you a fan of covered passages? We recommend taking this guided tour to get to know them better! On the agenda:a guided walk through a dozen hidden galleries, among restored wonders, forgotten places, and well-kept secrets.

While the Galerie Vivienne is undoubtedly the most beautiful covered passage in Paris, passersby enjoy strolling through its aisles. Walking on its period mosaic floors, looking up at its grandiose glass roof illuminating the passage… In this exceptional setting, a timeless stroll takes shape. Here, luxurious boutiques with an old-world feel follow one after another. Among them is the Jousseaume bookstore, one of the most beautiful bookstores in the capital. In this magnificent temple of reading, old and new books—all secondhand—sit side by side. One could easily spend hours admiring and turning the pages of these 400 works.

Luxury ready-to-wear clothing, consignment shops, photo galleries, toys, watches, decorations… Shops, each more elegant than the last, line the passageway. In front of the Galerie Vivienne, the Bistrot Vivienne invites us to take a gourmet break. Flanking the entrance to the Galerie, its two outdoor terraces are the perfect place to sample typical Parisian bistro fare.
In a quiet spot behind the Bibliothèque Richelieu and a stone’s throw from the Palais Royal gardens, lies an iconic haven of peace: the sumptuous Galerie Vivienne!
