Not far from Poitiers, in the department of Vienne, lies a place that is definitely unlike any other. A place so mysterious, so close to the supernatural, that every year it attracts curious visitors who come to test their limits in the face of horror. Today, we present the famous Château de Fougeret, unofficially recognized as one of the most haunted places in France!
Fougeret: discovering France’s most haunted castle
Halloween may be over, but it’s still possible to indulge in terrifying little experiences in Paris and beyond. Escape games, haunted houses or immersive experiences– there are a thousand ways to get your scare on. But if you want to take the horror to the extreme, you might as well treat yourself to an off-the-beaten-track experience in a truly terrifying location. We’ve named the Château de Fougeret, which, although little-known to the general public, has a fine reputation among thrill-seekers.
Built between the 14th and 16th centuries, this edifice has lived a thousand lives, during which tragic events have sometimes taken place. Unsolved murders, unexplained suicides, stays that turn tragic: the place seems to have always attracted trouble and curses, between legends and miscellaneous facts. Since the château was bought by the Geffroy family in 2009, it is said that many visitors and entities have appropriated the premises, sometimes letting their whispers and breaths be heard by guests.
Today, rather than fleeing the premises, the owners have decided to “cohabit” with the spirits, riding the paranormal wave that surrounds the château. As a result, visitors are invited to experience the supernatural at Fougeret, where evenings with mediums take place, along with numerous workshops and special overnight stays, where comfort is not at all the order of the day.
So, will you dare to take the plunge and book a night in the heart of this building?
