In Mexico, “El dia De Muertos” is a veritable tradition for commemorating the dead. With its festive character, the Day of the Dead is all about pleasing the spirits. Fruit, sweets and Pan de Muerto (a skull-shaped bun) are laid out as offerings in front of the flower-filled altars that Mexicans have so carefully crafted. Like the sublime animated film Coco, El dia de Muertos in Mexico is not a day of mourning, but a celebration to show the departed that they have not been forgotten… And for several years now in Paris, El dia de Muertos has been on a roll. While it certainly doesn’t have the same symbolism, this event remains one of the highlights of Halloween.
