Put down your controllers and smartphones, an event dedicated to video games and their history is coming to Versailles. Game Story is “Europe’s largest playable video-game retrospective“, and you have until April 2025 to enjoy this exhibition.
A video game retrospective at Versailles
It’s an exhibition that will tickle the fancy of video game fans past and present, and the most curious among them! Designed by the City of Versailles and M05, an association specializing in gaming, Game Story retraces 70 years of video game history and practice! From its beginnings in the 50s to the present day, this exhibition reviews decades of technological (r)evolutions and artistic-playful creations! Game Story will speak as much to the generations who got their start on the first Nintendo consoles as to those accustomed to games on smartphones!
70 years of gaming retraced
Games Story has the difficult task of summing up 70 years of videogame history! From the very first video games to the latest AI-powered creations, this exhibition looks back at the most memorable moments in this epic and the most cult creations, such as the first Tennis for two video game dating back to 1958, Pong and Prince of Persia! At a glance, the public will also be able to fly over decades of technological and industrial evolution, from the first gaming machines to SEGA or Atari consoles, via the arcade terminals of the early 70s. Around a hundred machines and nearly 500 games will be on display for visitors to try out!
Round tables and conferences will also be organized to satisfy the thirst for knowledge of the most passionate, as well as repair workshops (don’t hesitate to bring your old console for this occasion!).
