This autumn, the Musée du Quai Branly explores the frontier between the world of the living and the dead through the figure of the zombie! Ritual objects, reconstructions of a voodoo temple and cemetery, step into the other world with the Zombis exhibition . Is death not the end?
An exhibition to deconstruct and explore the zombie myth
There are zombies and zombies! This figure, widely exploited by horror/fantasy cinema, has become so widespread in popular culture that it is often misappropriated and even distorted. Since the beginning of October, the Musée du Quai Branly has been offering the public a face-to-face encounter with the real zombie, the one from the origins of the Haitian voodoo religion, in an intriguing exhibition.
Come and deconstruct the myth in Zombis. La mort n’est pas une fin? offers an insight into Haitian ritual culture until February 16, 2025. Cult objects, explanations of the practice of zombification, exploration of the African roots of the zombie and the globalization of the myth in the mid-twentieth century… Everything you need to know about zombies!
Zombies invade the big screen and the Musée du Quai Branly runway
Alongside this exhibition, the Musée du Quai Branly is also offering other ways to enter the world of the“undead“.
To mark Halloween, the museum has prepared a series of films dedicated to the zombies of pop culture! (Re)discover six nuggets of the 7th art including the cult Night of the Living Dead (George A. Romero, 1948) or Dernier train pour Busan (YEON Sang-ho, 2016) from October 31 to November 2 during Des films et des zombis.
Zombies will also set the dance floor alight at a festive pop party on Halloween night. DJ sets, a lecture and a quiz to test your zombie culture, a concert, a make-up demo… Awaken your inner zombie!
