A black hole? A galaxy? A star cluster? Thanks to NASA, you can test where Hubble was in space when you were born!
In April 2020, it will have been 30 long years since the Hubble telescope roamed the vastness of space, alone, in search of the mysteries of the universe. If the wandering satellite has helped us understand a little more about our surroundings, and mainly that the universe is constantly expanding, Hubble has also photographed every moment of its mad dash through the unknown. Today, the James Webb satellite telescope is taking over from Hubble to photograph the farthest reaches of the universe, but Hubble’s visual legacy is immense. And here’s an unusual opportunity to travel through the stars!

To celebrate the 11-ton baby’s birthday, the US space agency NASA has posted 366 photos of various events observed by Hubble. These photos, dating from the last 30 years, are then matched to your birthday. The site is often under maintenance, a victim of its own success, but there are other options!
You can visit Hubble’s official gallery, which has 87 pages of photos dating back to August 13, 1990. Or you can visit NASA’s “Astronomy Picture of the Day” site, which lists photos taken by all the agency’s telescopes since June 16, 1995!
For example, on the day I was born, millions of kilometers away, the Sun was experiencing one of its biggest eruptions on record! Not bad, eh ?
