A little over a month ago, the very first cable car in Île-de-France was finally inaugurated in Val-de-Marne. This ambitious project has been so successful that it has sparked envy! Île-de-France Mobilités could launch a new cable car line in western Paris, connecting Boulogne to Vélizy. However, this 6 km line perched high in the air is proving controversial!
A new cable car in western Paris?
This project has been divisive since… 2017! A new cable car line could connect Vélizy-Villacoublay and its shopping center to Boulogne-Billancourt in less than 15 minutes. If built, this 6 km line would relieve congestion on the N118 highway during rush hour. The icing on the cake is that the terminus at Pont-de-Sèvres would offer breathtaking views of the Eiffel Tower…

However, a feasibility study launched by the National Federation of Transport User Associations in 2017 raised doubts about the real time savings this line would bring to users. In addition, the mayor of Sèvres has also expressed his opposition to this project, which would fly over his town. Speaking to France 3 Région, the mayor of Vélizy expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating that the C2 line would save users “between 10 and 15 minutes during rush hour.” Apetition has even been launched in support of the line!
Although nothing has been confirmed by IDFM at this stage, studies could be carried out again very soon…
