Rivendell, Lothlórien, Gondor… All these mythical places come straight from the vivid imagination of J. R. R. Tolkien, the creator of The Lord of the Rings. On Saturday, April 26, 2025, the trilogy directed by Peter Jackson will be screened in an equally magical setting. With its impressive vaulted ceilings, the chosen venue itself seems straight out of Middle-earth: the Collège des Bernardins, a former Cistercian college nestled in the heart of the 5th arrondissement. An unmissable event for film buffs and fantasy lovers alike.
The Lord of the Rings in a grandiose Cistercian abbey
From 1pm, the doors open to the first chapter of the adventure: The Fellowship of the Ring. It’s a return to Hobbit land, to the county of green hills. The perilous epic begins, against a backdrop of magic, danger and deep friendship. At 4:30 p.m., with The Two Towers, darkness gains ground, confrontations intensify, and destinies intertwine between the vast plains of Rohan, the dark towers of Isengard and the spectral marshes. Finally, the trilogy’s final installment awaits you at 8pm: The Return of the King. As hope wavers and darkness seems to triumph, the free peoples unite one last time. The war for Middle-earth reaches its climax, with bravery, sacrifice and unforgettable reunions. An epic finale, where every step brings us closer to the mountain of Mordor… and the end of a legendary journey.
Whether you already know the trilogy by heart or are a first-timer, it’s impossible to miss this 17-Oscar saga. The films will be screened in their standard version, with French subtitles– good news, since the remastered version failed to convince all fans.
