First mooted in 1988 by Jacques Chirac, then Mayor of Paris, the idea of bathing in the Seine has always been a fantasy. Almost 35 years later, the challenge is finally about to be met! Announced several years ago by Anne Hidalgo, the idea of making it possible to swim in the Seine is set to become a reality from July 5, 2025, at three specific sites. We tell you all about it!
Where will we be able to swim in the Seine?
In the pipeline for many years, the Seine bathing project will finally see the light of day. Colossal in scale and perhaps a little underestimated at the outset, the work involved in cleaning up the river has held up progress for several years and decades. Today, thanks largely to the impetus provided by the Olympic Games, progress has accelerated and Anne Hidalgo has been able to promise that the river will be open to the public from 2025. Today, it’s confirmed that it will be possible to swim in the Seine from July 5 to August 31.
Before diving headfirst into the deep end, you should know that only three swimming areas will be available in Paris. From July onwards, you’ll be able to take a dip in the 15th arrondissement near the Port de Grenelle and Ile aux Cygnes, in the 4th arrondissement opposite Ile Saint-Louis, and in the 13th arrondissement at the Port de Bercy opposite the BNF.
All that’s left now is to wait patiently before taking the plunge!
