If you’re in the mood for a bit of nature, especially with all the gloom in Paris, we’ve come up with an idea for a getaway that’s sure to soothe your soul. Just south of Paris lies the small village of Samois-sur-Seine, and it makes a superb idea for a sunny weekend stroll. Just 60 kilometers from the capital, this little village is the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of Paris. Let us introduce you to this charming and historic commune.
An enchanted stroll in Samois-sur-Seine
We’ve already taken you on some lovely walks, notably in the villages of Barbizon, Gerberoy or, more recently, Milly-la-Forêt, but now we’re heading back to the Seine-et-Marne department to discover one of its most beautiful jewels. Our name is Samois-sur-Seine! Populated by just 2,200 inhabitants, the village has managed to preserve its peacefulness over the years, while offering a vibrant local life.
With its picturesque lanes and sandstone houses, Samois-sur-Seine retains all the charm of yesteryear thanks to these small vestiges of the Middle Ages. The town is perfectly suited to a short visit, both in its heart and along the banks of the Seine. Take a stroll along the little alleyways and “sentes” (the name given to the streets of the period), as well as along the towpath leading to the Queue de la Fontaine. You’ll be able to admire the small villas along the Seine that give the area its charm. Other points of interest in the town include the Tour de Samois, the wash house and the church of Saint-Hilaire.
Popular at all times, the little village has played host to great names such as Alfred de Musset, Paul Signac and Django Reinhardt. Follow in the footsteps of these artists and treat yourself to a stroll through Samois. With its constantly bustling local life, you can also enjoy colorful seasonal activities.
So if you’re looking for a sunny day out, or even a weekend away, this is a great idea for a stroll near Paris!
