“Ménage ton Canal
In 2022 and 2023, the Canal Saint-Martin was exceptionally open for swimming on 2 dates, in July and August. In partnership with Enlarge your Paris, Mairie du 10ème organized this swim in the famous Parisian canal. The essence of this project? Combining urban bathing and water cleaning operations. On July 16 and August 27, 2022, and then every Sunday in 2023, river navigation was halted on the Quai de Jemmapes, so that Parisians could splash about in the green water of the Canal Saint-Martin. Ladders, promontories and buoys were made available for the occasion, in the heart of this ephemeral natural pool.
On the 1st date, nearly 300 people took part in the “Ménage ton canal” operation. Pierre Rabadan, Anne Hidalgo’s deputy in charge of sport, was also present at this awareness-raising event, and was enthusiastic. “That’s great! The water is clean and should be 24°. This canal is a jewel in the middle of the city! to Le Parisien.
