With just a few months to go before the tournament, Roland Garros has just unveiled the official poster for its 2026 edition, and as is often the case, it’s making quite a splash. This year, the French Tennis Federation commissioned the design from JR, a leading figure in French street art known for his monumental collages and black-and-white portraits visible around the world.

For this piece, JR chose to place a black-and-white eye—the signature of his work—within a composition dominated by clay. On one hand, the Parisian tournament’s strong identity, with its unmistakable ochre color. On the other, a gaze that seems to observe the court, the players, and the spectators.
The artist drew on real images related to court preparation to create his visual. The poster thus highlights an often-overlooked aspect of the tournament: everything that happens behind the scenes before the matches.
Since 1980, Roland-Garros has commissioned a contemporary artist to design its poster each year, with the aim of blending sports and creativity. Over time, this poster has become an object in its own right, almost a collector’s item, far beyond its promotional role.
The 2026 edition of the tournament will take place from May 18 to June 7 in Paris, as it does every year on the clay courts of Roland Garros. As for JR, the artist will follow up in June with his ambitious “cave” project at the Pont-Neuf, alongside a former member of Daft Punk.
