After transforming the Louvre pyramid, the Place du Panthéon and the Palais Garnier, JR recently unveiled the outlines of his next project on the Pont Neuf. Called “La Caverne,” the installation scheduled for June will symbolically transform Paris’ oldest bridge into a monumental rock formation from another time.
JR teams up with Thomas Bangalter to bring this crazy project to life
To give this immersive work an extra dimension, JR has called on an unexpected name: Thomas Bangalter. The former member of Daft Punk, who has kept a low profile since the duo split in 2021, will create the music for the project. This collaboration combines visual art and contemporary composition in an atmosphere that promises to be immersive.
As we have come to expect from JR, we will be treated to a large-scale photographic print, transforming the bridge into a hollowed-out rock face, evoking a primitive cave in the heart of the capital. True to his approach, JR promises to play with perspective, public space, and the history of the location to offer a powerful visual experience that is accessible to all.

Known for his work combining electronic music, classical orchestration, and contemporary experimentation, Thomas Bangalter will extend the universe imagined by JR. The soundtrack will accompany the project like an immersion, reinforcing the impression of crossing a timeless space.
This encounter between two major figures on the French art scene is no coincidence. JR, accustomed to multidisciplinary collaborations, and Bangalter, now engaged in more orchestral and conceptual musical projects, share a taste for immersive and monumental works.
By taking over a location as iconic as the Pont Neuf, the project creates a dialogue between Parisian heritage and contemporary creation. With his cave, JR will continue his spectacular transformation of Parisian monuments, and the arrival of Thomas Bangalter in the adventure confirms the artistic scope of the project.
