The République station serves fivemetro lines: 3, 5, 8, 9, and 11. It’s a very important station for thousands of passengers who use it every day. But here’s the thing: this station is set to undergo major construction… for 8 years. The reason? Massive water leaks that are causing lasting damage to its structure. Here are the metro lines affected!
République station closed for 8 years… here are the affected metro lines
As you know, Line 8 will no longer serve République station starting next July, and this will last for at least 8 or 9 months until April 2027… Passengers will have to get off at Strasbourg-Saint-Denis or Filles-du-Calvaire throughout this long period…

But this won’t be the only line affected… According to Le Parisien, Line 9 will be next, between 2028 and 2029, followed by Line 5 from 2029 to 2030, then Line 11 from 2031 to 2033, and finally Line 3 from 2033 to 2034… In total, 15 million annual riders will be affected.
The station’s 14,000 m² will be completely redesigned and made fully safe. Damaged by significant water seepage following the renovation of Place de la République, the station is suffering from: limestone stains, deteriorated concrete and wiring… In short, it’s high time to secure the entire area by repairing the arches and improving passenger flow. Among other things, the station will be equipped with brand-new signage and better lighting.
A massive construction project that will cost tens of millions of euros… Groundbreaking is scheduled for July!
