For several years now, one of the emblems of the île Saint-Louis has been hidden by imposing scaffolding. The Saint-Louis-en-l’Île church underwent a well-deserved facelift. And after 6 long years of renovation, targeting the façade, bell tower and roof of the building, here it is, refurbished and once again visible in all its splendor. Like the many onlookers present this Thursday, May 30, come and admire the new face of this pretty, freshly renovated place of worship.
A new lease on life for Saint-Louis-en-l’Île church
Worn by the test of time, the church had been undergoing renovation for several years. Dirty walls, tarnished facade, damaged roof structure: the 17th-century building deserved a facelift in view of its condition. In 2018, the project was launched, but with its share of ups and downs. Initially scheduled to last three years, the project was not completed until six years later, due to the health crisis and a number of obstacles along the way.
Today, the place of worship reveals itself brand new to local residents, with a facade that has regained its beautiful colors, a brand-new slate roof and its once again majestic bell tower that has regained its iconic clock. So if you’re out and about on the Île Saint-Louis, don’t hesitate to come and admire one of its most beautiful emblems.
