Among the grandiose works that will enliven Paris for Art Basel 2024 is a giant bronze pumpkin signed by the famous Yayoi Kusama. On avenue Winston Churchill, at the foot of the Grand Palais, you’ll be able to appreciate the work of the mistress of peas by enjoying an ephemeral installation typical of her work. Don’t miss it!
Yayoi Kusama returns to Paris with a brilliant new work
Remember, in time for FIAC 2019, a large yellow spotted pumpkin landed right in the middle of Place Vendôme. Then, more recently, a giant statue stood in front of the Louis Vuitton store on the Champs-Élysées. What do these two installations have in common? The unmistakable signature of Yayoi Kusama, the contemporary Japanese artist with a colorful, hypnotic style. And good news for lovers of the artist: one of her emblematic works will once again be installed in Paris, once again in the 8th arrondissement.
The exhibition opens on October 15, and the sculpture will be on view until the end of Art Basel on the 20th. One of the artist’s emblematic pumpkins will be on display, this time covered in bronze and, of course, speckled with black polka dots. It will be one of several installations exhibited outdoors during the event. A work by Niki de Saint-Phalle on the forecourt of the Institut de France, and a giant mushroom by Carsten Höller on the Place Vendôme.
In short, just one of many treasures to be discovered during this prestigious celebration of contemporary art. See you on October 15!
