As you know, the legendary Pont des Arts was renovated just three years ago, to be ready in time for the Olympic Games opening ceremony. But unfortunately, three years later, the situation is dire… Weakened by the sun, but also by bicycles, the bridge has no choice but to close while it is reinforced!
The Pont des Arts closed for 4 weeks
If you were planning a romantic stroll across the “bridge of lovers,” you’ll have to wait for another time… In fact, since May 11, the legendary Pont des Arts has been closed for emergency repairs.

The reason? The slats! Indeed, they are no longer securely fastened in some places and pose a constant threat to passersby. The heat, weak fastenings, and the repeated passage of bicycles (which are actually prohibited from riding on the footbridge) have taken their toll… To the point that some slats are lifting up under the weight of pedestrians in certain spots.

No longer meeting safety standards, the City of Paris has decided to launch a major “crackdown” operation to reinforce this bridge, so emblematic of the capital. Work began on May 11 and will last for 4 weeks… With the hope, we trust, of preserving this piece of our heritage.
Pedestrians will therefore have to be patient and find an alternative route to get around!
