Interviewed by readers of Le Parisien this weekend, Valérie Pécresse, President of the Île-de-France region and of IDFM Mobilités, took stock of her term of office after almost 10 years in office, and set out her vision for the future. In view of the challenges facing the region, notably with the implementation of the Grand Paris Express, an increase in the price of the Navigo pass seems inevitable for the next few years, albeit a controlled one.
According to Valérie Pécresse, the price of the Navigo pass is set to rise every year
Displayed at €88.80 per month, the price of the Navigo pass rose again in 2025, as it had the year before and the year before that, when the price rose sharply. It’s a situation that has Parisians “grumbling”, but which is not about to improve, if we are to believe the words of the President of the Region. Indeed, she has announced that the Navigo will increase in price until 2031, but that this increase will be regulated. More specifically, it should not exceed the rate of inflation + 1%. This threshold has been set by agreement for 2023, but could still mean a €15 increase in the pass over 3 years.
In defense of this increase, Valérie Pécresse points out that the fare is still favorable, especially when the vast majority of users benefit from a subsidy paid for by their employer. She also points out that the “real price of transport” (drivers, maintainers, trains and electricity) is around €274 a month. However, the idea of a further increase is causing some people to cringe, particularly after the announcement of a further delay in the Grand Paris Express works, putting off delivery of the lines by several months.
