Following on from the successful collaboration between Deutsche Bahn and SNCF to link Paris and Berlin via a direct line, a new collaboration is to come between the two transport companies. This time, the Bavarian capital is in the spotlight, as a direct line between Munich and Paris has been announced. This new economical and ecological option is due to be launched at the end of 2026.
Paris-Munich rail link announced for 2026
Since last year, it has been possible to reach Berlin via a direct line set up by the two French and German railway companies. Building on this success, this cross-border project is about to take another step forward with the introduction of a link between Paris and Munich. This operation is part of the Franco-German cooperation established in 2007, and is also a fine initiative in favor of greener mobility.
To reach the Bavarian capital, TGV and ICE (Intercity Express) trains will take it in turns to offer a fast, comfortable journey, with no need for connections. Trains are expected to depart from Gare de l’Est and reach the beating heart of Bavaria in just a few hours.
With this alternative, you’ll be able to reach Munich and take advantage of its historical and architectural heritage, its plethora of cultural attractions and its green spaces. And if you’re planning a trip around October, you can take part in the festive Oktoberfest.
All in all, it’s a great place to spend a weekend. All we have to do now is wait until the end of 2026.
