In Paris, taking the Metro is an integral part of our daily routine. Yet the Paris metro is often criticized, sometimes even mocked. The cause: repeated delays , the horror of hot weather and the presence of rats on the RATP network. And yet, according to a recent report by Ile-de-France Mobilités, the Paris Metro was more punctual in 2024. Hard to believe, isn’t it? But the study is serious!
Clear progress in punctuality for the Paris metro… with the exception of line 8!
In a press release dated February 21, 2025, Ile-de-France Mobilités states that “the cumulative punctuality rate for 2024 is 96.18%, 3.45 points higher than in 2023 (92.73%)”. In other words, according to the Ile-de-France transport network, Paris metro punctuality improved significantly in 2024. According to the Syndicat des transports d’Ile-de-France, this significant improvement is due to action plans implemented by RATP on metro lines known to be problematic. In other words, of the 5 metro lines in question, all appear to be over 90% more punctual. Only one line contradicts this decidedly positive change: line 8, the dunce of all metro lines. Between 2023 and 2024, its punctuality is said to have increased by 1%, from 87% to 88%. A small improvement compared to other RATP lines, which have improved significantly.
Is the Paris metro finally on time? It’s well on the way…
In its annual report, IDF Mobilités proudly displays its punctuality figures for automated Paris lines. These include lines 1 and 14, which are the best performers on the punctuality league table. So, are you still finding it hard to believe? Well, the Paris metro should be increasingly on time.
