Until now reserved for members of parliament, the Assemblée Nationale’ s ingenious library, comprising 700,000 books including some seminal texts, will soon be open to the general public. After a year of restoration, the 18-kilometre-long building will be open to the public from April 10. An opportunity to discover this magnificent building while leafing through some exceptional books.
The Assemblée Nationale library and its treasures soon to be unveiled to the public
The manuscript of the Marseillaise, Diderot’s Encyclopédie and even the Serment du Jeu de Paume: these are just some of the priceless treasures to be found on the shelves of the Assemblée Nationale library. Founding texts that play a key role in democracy, brought together in a single location that is now open to visitors.
After a year of renovation work, notably on the roof painted by Eugène Delacroix, the President of the Assemblée Nationale wanted to make it possible to visit this historic building free of charge. So, from April 10, the doors of this piece of history will be open to the general public for the first time. The library’s collections will include tens of thousands of references covering law, political science, economics and history.
A new not-to-be-missed event for enthusiasts!
