Long a fixture on the Parisian cultural agenda, balls are making a major comeback in our capital: around the Années folles at the Château de Versailles, in guinguette chic mode at the Butte-aux-Cailles, or inspired by the world of Bridgerton…
And now the Musée des Arts Décoratifs is getting in on the act! This Sunday, July 6, the institution is hosting the Grand bal de la mode, to celebrate the centenary of its Art Deco exhibition! A kind of MET Gala, this social evening will combine fashion, heritage and French art de vivre! And director Sofia Coppola will be at the helm!

Sofia Coppola, artistic director of the Grand Bal at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs
For this highly social event, the Musée des Arts Décoratifs teamed up with a Francophile of the 7th art, Sofia Coppola! The filmmaker with a unique aesthetic flair, responsible for such great films as Marie-Antoinette, Virgin Suicides and Lost in Translation, is also a lover of Paris: “This city, which I consider my second home, touches me deeply. Celebrating such a symbol of French culture is a particular source of inspiration,” she explains. With Sofia Coppola at the helm, this ball will undoubtedly rival those in Vienna or New York (shudder, MET Gala!).
A fashion and social event for a good cause
But the Grand Bal de la Mode at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs is much more than a prestigious evening. A red carpet, scrutinized from all sides, will of course be organized, but behind the glamorous face, the event also aims to be charitable and a showcase for young creation! On Sunday, in addition to the exclusive party reserved for prestigious guests, there will be a special event dedicated to young talent from fashion and design schools! It will also be an opportunity to showcase the museum’s collections, especially the 1925 exhibition on the Art Deco movement! A wonderful way to celebrate the museum’s centenary!
