Long an integral part of the Parisian landscape, bals are making a major comeback in our capital: around the Roaring Twenties at the Château de Versailles, in guinguette chic mode at the Butte-aux-Cailles, or inspired by the world of Bridgerton… And now the Musée des Arts Décoratifs, one of Paris’s leading cultural institutions, is getting in on the act! To celebrate the centenary of its Art Deco exhibition, the establishment is planning an exceptional social evening on July 6, 2025. History, fashion and French art de vivre will twirl in a majestic setting.
Grand bal du Musée des Arts Décoratif: Sofia Coppola as artistic director
When it came to artistic direction, the Musée des Arts Décoratifs turned to Sofia Coppola, the most Parisian of American directors. If you’ve seen her film Marie-Antoinette, you know she loves Paris, its history, and has a unique aesthetic flair. “This city, which I consider my second home, touches me deeply,” she explains. “Celebrating such a symbol of French culture is a particular source of inspiration.” With Sofia at the helm, this ball will no doubt rival those in Vienna or New York (tremble, MET Gala!).
A fashion and social event for a good cause
But the Grand Bal de la Mode at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs is not just a prestigious evening. Although there will be an eagerly-awaited red carpet, the event also aims to raise funds for charity. An exclusive party will precede a major event open to promising students from design and fashion schools. The aim is to showcase the museum and its exhibitions, including Arts Déco, which will symbolically celebrate its 100th anniversary on this day. Further details to follow.
