Attention construction site! The famous Butte Montmartre as you know it is about to change, and for the better! The City of Paris has launched a phase of works that will last until August 2025. With disruptions and improvements in store, we reveal the details of this facelift!
The “Beautify your neighborhood” plan
Since 2021, the Paris municipality has launched a vast program of hyper-localized worksites called “Embellir votre quartier“. As its name suggests, this plan aims to transform some of the capital’s neighborhoods with the aim of improving their public spaces. Better overall traffic flow, development of bicycle paths, greening, new street furniture, pedestrianization… Here’s an overview of the potential improvements!
Some forty areas have already benefited from this “beautification”, and the Butte Montmartre is next on the list!
Notice of works on Butte Montmartre
The “Embellir votre quartier” (“Beautify your neighborhood“) plan is coming to the famous Butte! From November 18 to August 31, 2025, work will be carried out on the top of the hill. For your information, the aim is to condense the work to a minimum over a short period of time, in order to minimize the impact on residents.
Some disruption and inconvenience will therefore be inevitable in this neighborhood, with its often narrow streets and steep gradients. Roads will be blocked off, and some streets will be partially blocked to allow for road marking. Motorized traffic will be restricted (except for emergency vehicles), while pedestrian access will be restricted but maintained!
So you’ll have to be patient during the months of construction work, which will ultimately make the whole area a much smoother, more pleasant place to stroll!
What can we expect by the end of summer 2025? The plan took into account the opinions of residents, who were consulted! At the risk of making motorists cringe, parking will be banned for good. There will also be more bicycle parking spaces and new signage.
Fewer cars, more bike parking– the Butte Montmartre is getting a makeover! See you at the end of August to discover its new face!
