Ready for a trip outside the capital? This hiking trail through the forest of Meudon and the Val Fleury is one of the most popular itineraries once the warm weather arrives. So, in these first few weeks of spring, why not opt for this beautiful 15-kilometer escapade, winding its way around one of the greenest areas of the Île-de-France region.
A bucolic 15-kilometre hike just a stone’s throw from Paris
Following on from this beautiful escapade around the Gorges de Franchard, and a stroll around the meandering Seine, this time we’re talking about another hike, certainly the most accessible from Paris. Just 15 kilometers from the capital, the Meudon forest stretches over 1,000 hectares. An ideal playground for hikers. In fact, we’ve already presented an itinerary focusing on the west of the estate. Now we’ve added a 14.2-kilometer loop, focusing on the eastern part of the forest.
Starting from the Meudon Val Fleury station (accessible by RER C), head for the verdant Parc Paumier before entering the Bois de Clamart. Along the way, you’ll pass a succession of pretty ponds (Villebon, Meudon, Trivaux and Garenne) and admire the water features. As you continue your walk, you’ll find yourself right in the heart of the forest. Now’s the time to enjoy these beautiful wooded lanes and take a deep breath with all the nature around you. As for the wildlife, try to find a few squirrels and get out your binoculars to observe the many species of birds that live here. After the Bois de Clamart, head for the south side of the forest and then west again. At the edge of the woods, you’ll find the Parc forestier du Tronchet, then continue on your way back to the starting point.
Here are all the keys to one of the region’s most beautiful walks. Although the route is not particularly difficult, its length means you’ll need to bring along a few snacks, several liters of water and good shoes. The best time to set off is in the morning, so you can enjoy a picnic in the middle of the forest, and the average walk should take around 4h30. It’s up to you!
