Between Bonnières-sur-Seine and Mantes-la-Jolie, the Coteaux de Seine nature reserve awaits you for a beautiful long spring hike. Along this almost 30-kilometer itinerary, superb landscapes and sights await you for what promises to be a great day out.
One of the region’s most beautiful hikes
A few weeks ago, we introduced you to the Franchart gorges, on a quiet itinerary full of surprises. Today, we’d like to introduce you to a bigger challenge, this time to the west of the capital. This escapade in the heart of the Coteaux de la Seine nature reserve is probably one of the most beautiful walks to be enjoyed in the Paris region. It should be noted, however, that this hike, if completed in its entirety, requires 7h30 of walking and is not suitable for children.
To complete this hike without taking the car, take the train from Gare Saint-Lazare to Bonnières. From Bonnières, simply follow the banks of the Seine along its meandering course to Mantes-la-Jolie. Along the way, cliffs, ruined castles and superb panoramic views of the Seine. And the real bonus of this itinerary is that it takes you through three picturesque villages. In fact, you’ll pass through the magnificent village of La Roche-Guyon, famous for its castle that towers over the site. The route also passes through Haute-Isle, with its church carved out of a cliff, and Vetheuil, another of the region’s pearls and the home of Claude Monet. Last but not least, there are many other little sights along the way, including the Grotte de Créhence, the Gouffre des araignées and the Vieux-Pont de Limay.
All in all, it’s an epic journey for all adventurers. Above all, it’s an opportunity to discover the region’s most beautiful treasures, so it’s time to get out your hiking boots!
