In Paris, theatrical experiences are never lacking in originality, from *The Jury Experience*—where you influence the course of the play as a juror—to reimagined classics. This fall, Laurent Lafitte is dusting off his high heels and sequins to reprise one of his most extravagant roles.
Following its acclaimed run at the Théâtre du Châtelet, *La Cage aux folles* is now playing at La Seine Musicale on Île Seguin, just a few metro stops from Paris. On the program: cabaret, songs, misunderstandings, and a healthy dose of emotion. All directed by Olivier Py.

Laurent Lafitte as Zaza: the return of a colorful character
For those who aren’t yet familiar with the story, head to the French Riviera. Georges and Albin are a couple who run a drag cabaret. On stage, Albin becomes Zaza, a flamboyant diva who certainly doesn’t go unnoticed. But their daily lives are turned upside down when their son announces his engagement to the daughter of a particularly conservative family. And, of course, the meeting between the two families promises some memorable moments…
Laurent Lafitte steps into the shoes of Albin, alias Zaza. The former member of the Comédie-Française reunites here with a character that allows him to play on multiple levels: humor, excess, but also tenderness.
Because behind the costumes and cabaret numbers, *La Cage aux folles* is, above all, a story of family, love, and self-acceptance.
A cult musical reimagined by Olivier Py
Originally, *La Cage aux folles* was a play by Jean Poiret, premiering in 1973, before finding new life on the big screen and then on Broadway. In 1983, composer Jerry Herman and librettist Harvey Fierstein adapted it into a musical that became a massive hit.
For this French version, Olivier Py has chosen to put cabaret back at the heart of the show. Songs, dance, and theater intertwine in a production that plays with the conventions of music hall.
